ABOUT
The Basketball Queensland Indigenous Pathways Program (BQIPP) aims to deliver a range of socially inclusive sport and physical activity initiatives to increase participation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Basketball throughout Queensland, particularly for those vulnerable and disadvantaged Indigenous persons living in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
OBJECTIVES
- Increase participation for Indigenous people in Basketball throughout Queensland as well as making the sport more accessible to QLDers
- Increase the number of new predominantly Indigenous member associations of BQ
- Increase the number of registered Indigenous members participating within affiliated BQ associations
- Increase the number & capability of active Indigenous coaches and referees in Queensland
- Increase the skillsets & capability of Indigenous volunteers in Queensland
- Identify talented Indigenous players, coaches & referees and work on accelerating their potential to become elite
- Support elite Indigenous players and coaches that have been selected and appointed to BQ High Performance Programs & State Teams;
- Promote opportunities for Reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people
- Provide education and training to reduce racial discrimination and promote greater diversity
ACTIVITIES
Activities and programs to be delivered by Indigenous Program Managers under the BQIPP include:
- Flexible in-school and out-of-school community-based participation activations
- Inclusive local sports competitions & events, incorporating 5 vs 5 and 3 x 3 Basketball
- Capacity building coaching and refereeing courses designed to teach sport skills & techniques
- Cultural Capability & Safety Training
- High Performance & Talent Identification
