Queensland North State Team Coaches
“This will be my third cycle with the U18s and I’m really excited to keep building on what we tried to put in place last year. We have a good group coming through so I’m excited for what’s ahead.
“I love being involved and getting to work with some of the best talent in the state and help build them up both on and off the court.
“I was really quite impressed at trials this year and we’ve got a good group of players coming through who are really athletic and quick. We’re ready to be competitive and shake a few feathers.”
“I’m super excited and can’t wait to get started. It was disappointing to not being able to go away with what we thought was a really impressive group but I’m really excited to get involved with the next group and see what we have to work with.
“There were 31 players at the U18 trials in Rockhampton which is probably a record for the region and the standard was really high. Then the North trials here in Townsville were a really high standard as well.
“It’s going to be a really tough team to make so players are going to have to push each other in SPP seasons and hold each other accountable.”

Jackie Brown - QLD U18 South Women's Head Coach
“I’m excited about getting the opportunity to work with Queensland’s best athletes and having the opportunity to be a mentor and a role model, to help them develop both on and off the court as people and as athletes.
“It was really disappointing to not go to AJCs this year and as much as I felt for me, I felt for the athletes. They were a really hard-working group who gave their all, we were ready to go and I thought we were going to do really well.
“To represent Queensland and be in a head coaching role for Queensland is a privilege and an honour. So for me to get a second go at that is brilliant. Plus, we have unfinished business! We got a silver last time, so we have some unfinished business.”
Michael Lake- QLD U18 South Men's Head Coach
“I am really excited, humbled and grateful to be given another opportunity at this level, especially after missing out on the chance to take the team away earlier this year.
“This U18 group has some really talented players and after seeing the SPP trials and training sessions I think we will have our work cut out as a staff to narrow it down to a final 10.
“I am looking forward to being involved with the SPP squad over the next few months and then getting to work on our nationals’ preparation and campaign in the new year.”
