17 Queenslanders, alongside three QAS and Spinning Bullets athletes have been selected for the Australian Gliders, Rollers and U23 Spinners camps held at the AIS this month in preparation for the Asia/Oceania World Cup qualifiers in Thailand.

The Australian Gliders have just completed their 5-day camp in Canberra, while the Rollers and Spinners head into camp today. Athletes invited to the camp will also have the opportunity to try out for Basketball Australia's newly formed 3x3 Wheelchair program.

"We have a selection camp for the Australian Rollers team [this week] and at the same time we are going to have a 3x3 try out camp because we actually have 3x3 wheelchair basketball as a sport at the Commonwealth Games this year, so it’s a bit of a mixture," said Rollers Squad athlete Jordan Bartley.

"Our camps have been pushed back a little bit since the start of Feb so it’ll be good to get down there and see the rest of the guys and get to work.

"I've been lucky enough to make that [Rollers] squad and 3x3 basketball is still quite new to the scene, a lot of us haven’t played a lot of 3x3 basketball so looking forward to getting down there and experimenting with the rules and getting better at that style of the game."

With U23 Spinners camp being held alongside the Rollers training at the AIS, fellow Queenslander Lachlin Dalton is keen to get to the AIS to  continue preparations ahead of a busy competition year.

"We’re heading into our U23 Australian Spinners camp in the lead up to our U23 World Championships later this year. This will be our first camp for the year to kind of kick start us and really help us prepare for the World Champs".

The 2022 Asia Oceania Championships, the Zone's qualification tournament for the 2022 IWBF World Championships will now take place in Phuket, Thailand between 21-28 May, 2022.
